    Early Life and Revolution

    William Thomas Cosgrave, an Irish revolutionary and statesman, was born on June 6, 1880, in Dublin, Ireland.

    During the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921), Cosgrave played a significant role within the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and the Sinn Féin political movement. He served as Director of Intelligence in the IRA and as Minister for Local Government in the self-declared Irish Republic from 1919 to 1921.

    Following the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921, which established the Irish Free State, a civil war broke out between supporters and opponents of the treaty.
